Reading group energy

Reading Group Energy helps trainers tune into the emotional state of their group and adjust their approach accordingly. It uses a combination of observation and visualization to make real-time decisions that keep sessions engaging and effective.

Start by observing your group. Look for body language, facial expressions, and overall mood. Are participants sitting forward, showing interest, or do they seem distracted and tired? These cues can tell you a lot about their energy. Next, use visualization to interpret what you notice. Imagine the group as a bottle – how full does it feel? A full bottle might mean the group needs time to reflect or process, while an empty bottle could mean they’re ready for more input.

You can also think of the group as a weather pattern. Are they like a sunny day – energized and ready to go – or cloudy and low on energy? These images can guide your decisions. For example, if energy feels low, you might add a short energizing activity. If they seem overwhelmed, take a moment for reflection or a lighter discussion.
