Developing Intuition with Maya Wisdom

When you want to follow and trust your intuition, it is often fears, doubts, and limiting beliefs that make it difficult to access your own inner wisdom. The wisdom of the Maya — and in particular their Tzolkin calendar — can help us find our way inward with ease.

The Tzolkin calendar is the sacred calendar of the ancient Maya of Mexico and Guatemala. This calendar was — and still is — used to structure cycles of time and give meaning to events. It is a 260-day calendar that shows which energy is available each day from the heart of the Milky Way: energy that supports growth and creation. The calendar makes us aware of this energy, allowing us to move with it and collaborate with it, thus connecting heaven and earth. In this way, the Tzolkin serves as a bridge between universal wisdom and our own inner wisdom.

Each day in this calendar has its own name and is associated with a number from 1 through 13. The number thirteen is a natural number that appears in many aspects of life, such as:

  • thirteen weeks in a quarter,
  • thirteen lunar cycles around the Earth in one solar year,
  • thirteen major joints in the human body,
  • thirteen as part of the Fibonacci sequence (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13…), a mathematical sequence that describes natural growth patterns and can be found in, among other things, the spiral structures of shells and sunflowers, as well as in the structure of DNA.

Together, the thirteen sacred numbers of the Tzolkin form a complete cycle of growth or creation. Each step in this process has its own role and value, and therefore its own creative and growth-oriented power. The creative process itself has no beginning and no end; it is a continuously unfolding spiral to which you are connected throughout your life. When you become aware of this process, it becomes easier to move with the natural flow of life.

By allowing yourself to be inspired by the Tzolkin calendar, you connect not only with the source from which this energy originates — the heart of the Milky Way — but also with your own heart: the source of your personal wisdom. As a result, you become increasingly attuned to your inner compass and begin to make more conscious choices that truly suit you: work that energizes you, nourishing relationships, healthy choices, and greater joy and lightness in your life. In this way, the Tzolkin calendar forms a bridge between universal wisdom and your own inner wisdom.

While astrology is aligned with our solar system, the Tzolkin calendar is aligned with the Milky Way. Our solar system consists of the Sun and all the objects that orbit it, such as planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. The Milky Way, by contrast, is a vast galaxy — a collection of billions of stars, planets, gas, and dust — of which our solar system is only a small part. The Maya refer to the heart of the Milky Way as the womb of the universe: the source from which all energy originates and to which everything ultimately returns.

In trainings, the Tzolkin calendar can be used in a simple and practical way to work intuitively and in alignment. The energy of the day serves as the starting point for a specific practice:

  • As a facilitator, you tune in to the day’s energy in advance or together with the group during the training.
  • You then choose a creative or energetic practice, such as intuitive writing, drawing, movement, or a systemic exercise.

This approach — working in collaboration with cosmic energy — provides direct access to each person’s infinite source of wisdom.

Before the session, ask yourself, “How am I feeling right now?” and “How is my emotional state influencing my intuition?” This reflection helps distinguish between emotional reactions and intuitive insights.: In trainings sessions, the Tzolkin calendar can be used in a simple, practical way to work intuitively and in alignment. The energy of each day becomes the starting point for a specific practice that helps both you as a trainer and participants connect more deeply with themselves and with the group.
Working with the day’s energy in preparation:
Before a training, you can tune in to the Tzolkin day energy individually to set an intention and prepare yourself. Here’s a simple way:

  1. Read or reflect on the day’s energy: Spend a few minutes reading the description of the day’s energy or quietly sensing how it resonates in your mind and body.
  2. Journal or note insights: Write down any thoughts, feelings, or inspirations that arise.
  3. Optional creative expression: Draw, sketch, or move in a way that expresses the energy.
  4. Set an intention: Consider how you want to bring this energy into your presence, facilitation, or mindset for the upcoming session.

Doing this in advance helps you connect with the energy personally, tune your own awareness, and bring a clear, aligned intention into the training—even if you don’t use a group exercise with it.

Working with the day’s energy in the group:
During a training, the day’s energy can be used as a starting point for a shared practice that connects participants with themselves and with each other. Here’s a simple approach:

  1. Tune in together: As a facilitator, introduce the day’s energy by reading it aloud, inviting silent reflection, or noticing how it resonates in the body.
  2. Engage creatively: Invite participants to explore the energy through writing, drawing, movement, or a group/systemic exercise.
  3. Share and reflect: Give participants the opportunity to share what they experienced, wrote, or created. Sharing in a safe, supportive environment strengthens group connection, fosters trust, and often leads to new insights for everyone.

This approach works best at the beginning of a training session, as a gentle way to center participants and bring them into connection with themselves and each other. It can also be used before a transition between topics to reset the group energy or at the end of a session as a reflective closing practice. The exercise is flexible and can be easily integrated without taking time away from the main program.

Step 1: As a facilitator, engage with the day’s energy in a tangible way—for example, by reading it aloud, silently reflecting on its meaning, or noticing how it resonates in your body. Doing this together strengthens participants’ connection with themselves and with each other, building the group’s shared energy field.

Step 2: Choose a creative or energetic practice that embodies the day’s energy. This could include:
– Intuitive writing: jot down thoughts, insights, or emotions inspired by the day’s energy.
– Drawing or visual expression: create symbols, patterns, or images that reflect the energy.
– Movement or body exercises: explore the energy through dance, gestures, or mindful movement.
– Systemic exercises or group work: observe dynamics, roles, or connections in the group inspired by the day’s energy.

Step 3: Invite participants to share what they have written, drawn, or experienced. Sharing in a safe, supportive space creates connection within the group, fosters trust, and often leads to new insights for both the sharer and the listeners. This step allows the energy of the practice to ripple through the group, reinforcing collective awareness and understanding.

By following these steps, participants deepen their personal connection to the day’s energy while also strengthening the collective field, making it easier for everyone to engage fully, intuitively, and creatively throughout the training.

Key Notes for Trainers:
– Decide time allocation before starting.
– Keep practices short and flexible to fit the program.
– Encourage a safe, supportive environment for sharing.
– Align group and individual awareness with the day’s energy.
